If the dress code on an invitation says "Come as you are", this should be taken literally if your outfit is designated as "business casual", "smart casual" or "business attire". A less presentable casual look, on the other hand, stands out negatively from the crowd among business outfits. In this case, it is worth rummaging through your closet for something more stylish.
